Tesco has stepped up for its local community by donating £50,000 to Isabel Hospice, a Welwyn Garden City-based charity that provides vital palliative care to those with life-limiting illnesses in eastern Hertfordshire.

Isabel Hospice has been a cornerstone of the community since 1982. Through its in-patient unit, hospice at home team, outpatient day centre, and family and bereavement support team, the charity has ensured that patients and their families receive compassionate care when they need it most, for over 40 years.

Dr Helen Glenister, CEO of Isabel Hospice, expressed her gratitude for Tesco's donation and long-standing support:

"We are immensely thankful for Tesco's generous donation and their ongoing support over the years. Their many contributions, ranging from volunteering to decorate our in-patient unit for Christmas every year, donating brand new furniture to our head office, and providing vital financial support through Tesco Community Grants to name just a few, have been invaluable.

“This incredible donation of £50,000 will significantly impact our ability to continue providing the high-quality care our patients and their families rely on."

Claire De Silva, Tesco Head of Community, highlighted the importance of supporting local causes:

"We are thrilled to be able to make this donation to an exceptional, local charity such as Isabel Hospice, a cause that is very close to many of our colleagues who live locally in Welwyn Garden City.”

“We hope this donation will provide much-needed care for the families and friends of our teams in Welwyn Garden City and local people across the wider Hertfordshire catchment area."

Katy O’Sullivan, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Isabel Hospice, emphasised the significance of the donation:

"While our patients and their families don’t pay a penny to receive our support, hospice care can be expensive to provide. It costs almost £5,000 to run our in-patient unit for just 24 hours.

“A significant donation like this one will go a long way in ensuring we can continue to support local families during some of the most challenging times of their lives. We are very grateful that Tesco consistently chooses to help local charitable initiatives like ours and take care of the community they belong to."
