Supermarket giant Morrisons has reached a major fundraising milestone, raising £5 million in support of end-of-life care charity Marie Curie through a nationwide partnership driven by store colleagues and customers.
The achievement marks the culmination of months of community-led fundraising activities across Morrisons stores, distribution centres and offices throughout the UK. Initiatives ranged from charity collections and in-store events to staff-led challenges, all aimed at supporting Marie Curie’s work providing care and support to people living with terminal illness.
Marie Curie, best known for its network of nurses who provide vital end-of-life care in people’s homes and hospices, said the funds will help ensure more families can access compassionate support when they need it most.
Morrisons colleagues have played a central role in reaching the £5 million milestone, organising bake sales, sponsored events and store-level campaigns while encouraging customers to donate through checkout contributions and charity product promotions.
A spokesperson for Morrisons said the milestone reflects the strength of the retailer’s partnership with Marie Curie and the generosity of its customers.
“Reaching £5 million is an incredible achievement and a testament to the passion of our colleagues and the kindness of our customers. Marie Curie provides vital support to families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, and we are proud to play a part in helping them continue that work.”
Marie Curie also praised the dedication of Morrisons staff and shoppers in helping to expand the charity’s reach.
“With rising demand for end-of-life care, partnerships like this are more important than ever,” a Marie Curie representative said. “The generosity shown by Morrisons colleagues and customers will help us continue providing expert nursing care, practical support and guidance to people across the UK.”
The charity says the funds raised through the partnership will contribute to nursing care in people’s homes, hospice services, and its free support line for people facing terminal illness.
The £5 million milestone comes at a time when charities across the UK are facing growing demand for services alongside ongoing financial pressures.
Morrisons said it will continue working with Marie Curie to raise further funds and awareness for end-of-life care, building on the momentum created by the campaign.
For Marie Curie, the milestone represents more than a fundraising total — it reflects thousands of individual acts of generosity from communities across the country, helping ensure that more people can receive compassionate care at the end of life.
