Julia and Hans Rausing have contributed £1 million to London’s Air Ambulance Charity’s ‘Up Against Time’ campaign.
London’s Air Ambulance Charity is looking to raise £15 million to replace its two helicopters, bringing them into service in 2024 and maintain them for five years.
This donation combined with the £6.5 million already secured, brings the charity halfway to the £15 million required to replace its helicopter fleet. The campaign has never had more momentum, with from a cornerstone pledge of £3 million from London Freemasons and the continued support of partners such as the charity’s Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales.
London’s Air Ambulance Charity is the only helicopter emergency medical service caring for the 10 million people that live, work and travel in London every day. Founded in 1989, to date it has treated over 45,000 critically injured people and attended most major incidents in London including 7/7, the Grenfell Tower fire and London Bridge terror incident.
London’s Air Ambulance teams bring the hospital to seriously injured patients, getting to London’s most severe trauma cases within minutes, and conducting life-saving treatments at the roadside. The aircraft functions as the single fastest way to get to a patient’s side when time is critical. The helicopter can fly anywhere in London (inside the M25) within 11 minutes.
Jonathan Jenkins, CEO, London’s Air Ambulance Charity, said:
“The extraordinary generosity of Julia and Hans Rausing brings us one step closer to our vision of bringing in a new generation of helicopters for London. Their contribution is far more than just a numerical figure; it is a donation that will have a profound impact on the lives of those we serve. As a service funded overwhelmingly by donations, the support of philanthropists like Julia and Hans Rausing is the only way for our charity to continue to provide rapid, life-saving care to those in need across the capital. We couldn’t be more grateful for their backing and significant commitment of support.”
