Former Sky Sports presenter Sophie Blake, who is living with advanced breast cancer, has partnered with For My Encore and Make 2nds Count during Dying Matters Awareness Week to encourage more open and honest conversations about death, dying and what truly matters most and to highlight the importance of celebrating life while we can.

Make 2nds Count is a UK charity dedicated to giving hope to those living with secondary breast cancer through research, education and support. The organisation has partnered with For My Encore, a digital legacy platform that helps people record and share personal stories, reflections and messages that celebrate life and the moments that shape who we are.

Through the partnership, supporters can create an ENCORE space, a personal digital time capsule that captures their memories, experiences and defining life moments for family and friends. The platform also allows users to record private messages for delivery on future milestones such as birthdays, weddings or anniversaries for up to ten years in advance.

Sophie has been using For My Encore to document her life and create a shared record with her daughter Maya. Together, they are preserving special memories, celebrating the joyful chapters of Sophie’s life and exploring stories from her earlier years, including her broadcasting career and the person she was before becoming a parent.

Sophie Blake said, “I’ve spent years telling other people’s stories. This is the first time I’ve really taken the time to tell my own. For My Encore has given me a way to capture the memories and moments that matter most to me, and to share them with Maya while I can. I plan to stick around for a long time yet, but I wanted a way to leave something of myself behind for the people I love, my daughter, my mum, my nieces and even future grandchildren. For me, it’s about celebrating life, not focusing on loss.”

Nick Annetts, founder of For My Encore, created the platform after losing his mother.

“When my mum died, I realised how many things I wished I’d asked her, the music she loved, the stories from her life and the moments that shaped who she was. That experience inspired me to create For My Encore, giving people a structured way to capture those memories before it’s too late. At its heart, this is about celebrating life and all the moments that make it meaningful.”

Lisa Fleming, Founder and CEO of Make 2nds Count, said, “We are delighted to partner with For My Encore. It offers our community a thoughtful and uplifting way to celebrate their lives, record their stories and leave something lasting for loved ones, while also supporting the work we do for those living with secondary breast cancer.”

Legacy giving continues to be a vital source of income for charities, accounting for around 30% of fundraising among the top 1,000 legacy-receiving organisations, according to the Legacy Giving Report 2025. This partnership helps supporters reflect on life and legacy through a lens of celebration while contributing to causes that make a real difference.
