Giving back has always been important to Hug Rug. As a part of the Phoenox Textiles family – a leading British flooring brand founded in 1954 and responsible for creating the first washable rug in 1970 – supporting British charities and wildlife is a core part of Hug Rug’s mission.

This Christmas, Hug Rug has donated 724 throws, made from 100% recycled plastics, to the Yorkshire Children’s Charity as it supports 1,745 children across 724 families with gifts this festive season. Alongside its support to this local charity, Hug Rug is a long-time supporter of several organisations including the RSPB Bird & Wildlife Conservation Charity, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, Rainbow Trust, and Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Hug Rug epitomises true British craftsmanship, as it continues to craft all of its products in the UK at its family-run mill in Yorkshire. Designed for every home, Hug Rug’s collections span environmentally conscious doormats, runners, rugs, bath mats and more – all designed to help reduce plastic waste and support greener living.

Lizzie Mosely, Creative Director at Hug Rug, states, “Since our inception, Hug Rug has been dedicated to giving back and supporting a range of incredible charities, both locally and beyond. Through donations and our Charity Mats, we’re proud to help these organisations continue their vital work. The Yorkshire Children’s Charity is especially close to our hearts – as a company that’s been proudly making in Yorkshire since 1954, its mission truly resonates with our Hug Rug family.”

The Yorkshire Children’s Charity X Hug Rug Donation

Charlotte Farrington, CEO and founder of Yorkshire Children’s Charity comments: “This year, Yorkshire Children’s Charity has seen a 20% rise in applications from families in urgent need of winter support. Teachers across Yorkshire primary schools have identified 2,373 children living in destitution – many without basic essentials like a duvet, a warm coat, or dry shoes. 84% of the children we’re supporting this year are currently sleeping without proper bedding.

Donations from generous companies like Hug Rug are so important to making our work possible. The families we support often live their lives somewhere between fight and flight, facing one crisis after another. Working parents who despite trying their best, are finding that their best just simply isn’t enough. Or parents raising a child with disabilities, who are, by fact, more likely to experience poverty than those without. With the rising cost of living crisis, we regularly hear from families who are worried about how they are going to keep their homes, and children, warm as the winter approaches. These throws will make the world of difference.”
