Vibrant Doors share their pride to be part of the successful completion and opening of a brand-new Safe & Sound support hub in Derby city centre – created to provide vital services and support to local children that have been subjected to exploitation.
A new charity hub has officially opened its doors in Derby city centre, creating a welcoming, safe space where children, young people and their families can access vital support services close to home.
Led by local charity Safe & Sound, the hub has been developed to bring multiple strands of support together under one roof, making it easier for vulnerable young people and their families to get help, guidance and reassurance when they need it most.
The project first began in January 2025, with months of planning, refurbishment and collaboration taking place throughout the year. In December 2025, the doors officially opened to service users, marking an important milestone for both the charity and the wider Derby community.
Creating a Central Safe Space
Safe & Sound Group works tirelessly to support children and young people who have been affected by exploitation and abuse, offering specialist services that focus on safety, recovery and long-term wellbeing.
Melbourne House, located on Bold Lane, will act as a centre point. An accessible base where this work can continue and grow, offering a calm, supportive environment designed around the needs of those who use it.
Tracy Harrison, CEO of Safe & Sound said: “This new hub is about creating a place where children, young people and families feel safe, supported and listened to. Having a dedicated space in the city centre allows us to reach more people and remove barriers to support. It’s something we’ve been working towards for a long time, and opening the doors to this new safe space was a hugely emotional and proud moment for our team.”
The support we’ve received from local businesses and partners has been incredible. Projects like this simply wouldn’t be possible without organisations who understand the importance of community and are willing to stand alongside us.”
One of those local organisations is Vibrant Doors, the Derby-based door specialist which supported the project during the refurbishment phase by supplying door and window solutions for the building. While the charity’s mission remained the clear focus, Vibrant Doors worked closely with the project team to ensure the space was practical, secure and welcoming for those who would be using it every day.
After months of dedication from the Vibrant Doors team, partner organisations and volunteers, the charity-run hub officially welcomed service users in December, marking a milestone in community provision in the heart of Derby.
John Shaw, Managing Director of Vibrant Doors, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the charity hub open its doors to the people who need it most. From the moment this project began, everyone involved has brought energy, compassion and a real desire to make a difference in our city.
At Vibrant, we’ve always believed in supporting the communities where we live and work, and to see this hub now fully operational, providing real support, is truly heart-warming.
This project reflects our company values so beautifully, putting people first, backing local organisations and working together to build something meaningful. We’re honoured to have been able to contribute to the work Safe & Sound are doing and we congratulate all of the partners who have helped make this dream a reality.”
The charity hub is expected to deliver a broad range of support initiatives in 2026 and beyond, including information services, community workshops and partnership programmes designed to foster resilience and connection across Derby.
