Engineering components specialist Accu has announced The Kirkwood as its Charity of the Year for 2025–26, launching a partnership aimed at raising both critical funds and awareness for the Huddersfield-based hospice charity.

The charity initiative, driven by the Accu Community Group, reflects the company’s commitment to local impact, compassion, and people-first values.

“We’re delighted Accu has chosen The Kirkwood,” said Michael Crowther, Chief Executive of The Kirkwood. “That this decision came from their employees makes it even more meaningful. Accu’s values align closely with ours—they put people at the heart of everything they do.”

Founded nearly four decades ago, The Kirkwood supports individuals and families affected by life-limiting illnesses throughout Kirklees. While best known for its Dalton hospice, the charity delivers wide-ranging services including in-home nursing care, bereavement support, and a telephone helpline. In 2023, over 2,000 people accessed its services—double the number a decade ago.

Alongside fundraising, the company will use its platform to spotlight the full scope of The Kirkwood’s work and the growing need for community support.

Despite its impact, The Kirkwood faces severe financial pressures. With only 25% of its funding from the NHS, the charity relies heavily on donations and local partnerships. Rising costs and the cost-of-living crisis are straining its budget—and services are at risk if support doesn’t increase.

“The challenges we face are significant,” Crowther said. “We’re deeply grateful to everyone at Accu for stepping up at such a critical time.”

Each Accu employee receives a paid volunteering day annually, and the company has already begun engaging staff in hands-on support—including a recent clothing donation drive.

For Accu, the charity partnership represents more than corporate social responsibility—it’s a commitment to community, compassion, and ensuring essential care remains accessible to all.
