Argos select Alzheimer's Society as their official charity partner
Alzheimer’s Society are delighted to announce that Argos have been selected as their official charity partner for 2019. Employees from the company’s UK offices launched the four month partnership on Monday 2 July, after staff voted to select Alzheimer’s Society as their chosen charity. Everyone knows Argos. It’s the store that brought us the catalogue and the store that, like Alzheimer’s Society, has been at the heart of communities for 40 years. By raising money to fund Dementia Support Workers and Advisers, Argos will help Alzheimer’s Society be there for everyone affected by dementia. Dementia Support Workers and Advisers offer information and practical guidance to help those who have received a diagnosis understand the condition, cope with day-to-day challenges and prepare for the future, enabling them to maintain their independence for longer. Sainsbury’s Argos CEO, John Rogers has commented on the company’s fantastic support: 'We are delighted to be partnering with Alzheimer’s Society to create lasting change for people affected by dementia. Over the next four months colleagues will join together for a range of fun events and activities within our Argos stores, Support Centres, Customer Management Centres and Distribution Centres. They’ll be participating in everything from Cupcake Day to the Trek26 challenge series. We are proud that the money raised by our colleagues and customers will support Alzheimer’s Society in its mission to be there for everyone affected by dementia.' Alzheimer’s Society CEO, Jeremy Hughes has also highlighted the importance of the partnership, stating: 'I am delighted that Argos employees have chosen to unite against dementia and support Alzheimer’s Society as their chosen charity partner. There are currently 850,000 people living in the UK with a form of dementia. If we don't take action this number is predicted to rise to over two million by 2051. So many of us have first-hand experience of dementia and know how devastating the condition can be - that is why we are grateful to companies like Argos for committing to raise awareness and create a more positive future for people affected by the disease. Building on the success of our partnership with Argos in 2013-15, Argos will make an instrumental difference by helping to fund Dementia Support Workers and Advisers who are able to reach those who feel most isolated after a diagnosis. Thank you for such a fantastic opportunity to make the world a better place for people affected by dementia.'
